Which areas will you bring fiber internet service to?

When will construction begin? When will service become available?
Construction is currently scheduled to begin anytime first quarter of 2023 and second quarter of 2023, with service becoming available to the first residents in mid- to late-2023. This timeline is subject to change.

How much will internet service cost? How fast will it be?
Packages will start at $29.99/month for qualified households. We’ll offer speeds of up to 100 Mbps, 250 Mbps, 500 Mbps, or 1,000 Mbps (1 Gig) to reliably connect all of your devices.
Is BTX Fiber the city funded or publicly funded project?
No. BTX Fiber, powered by Lit Communities, is focused on bringing fiber to the residents and businesses of the City of Brownsville on a network known as the “Last Mile”. The City of Brownsville has invested nearly $20 million in this project to provide the “Middle Mile” network backbone in downtown Brownsville, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act.
What is the “Middle Mile” network?
“Middle-mile” networks are the connections from national and major regional internet backbones to local (or Last Mile Networks) networks – the network ‘in the middle’. In the case of the City of Brownsville, the first step in solving the digital divide specific to our city is to establish a Middle Mile backbone network. The Middle Mile was designed to focus on connecting anchor institutions and building redundancy into the network. The City of Brownsville has invested nearly $20 million in this project to provide the Middle Mile network backbone in downtown Brownsville, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act.
What is the Last Mile network?
The last mile refers to the final leg of the fiber networks that deliver internet services to customers’ homes and businesses. The “Last Mile” is a $70 million project for BTX Fiber to make fiber-based broadband available to homes and businesses throughout Brownsville.
When can I get fiber internet to my home or business?
Construction is currently scheduled to begin anytime between fourth quarter of 2022 and first quarter of 2023, with service becoming available to the first residents in mid- to late-2023. This timeline is subject to change. Please complete our survey.
How much will BTX Fiber internet cost each month?
For residential customers, we are tentatively planning for the following rates:
- 100/100mbps: $30 - $35
- 500/500mbps: $55 - $65
- 1000/1000mbps: $89 - $99
Note: These prices are subject to change. Business/commercial customer pricing is to be determined.
Will the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) be available through BTX Fiber?
Yes. ACP is a U.S. government program run by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program to help low-income households pay for internet service and connected devices like a laptop or tablet.
How can I find out if you’ll connect my home or business?
